Noxious Dragon Guide

This boss fight takes place in the wilderness. PVP is enabled. When the Noxious Dragon spawns, a chat announcement is sent to all players that are in the wilderness at that time.
Intro
  • The Noxious Dragon is a group boss; it cannot be killed solo. The maximum amount of players that may receive a drop from the dragon is 6. You must do 10k damage to be eligible for a drop.
  • Simply hitting the dragon once and leaving will still add to your kill count if other players kill it, and thus ticking off the Noxious Dragon as a Reaper title requirement.
  • Whether you want to risk your valuable items in the wilderness or not is up to your own discretion. However, being skulled (;;skull) increases your damage by 25% at the Noxious Dragon and Wyrm, which means that you will be risking to lose ALL items you’re carrying if you get PKed. (Minus the one with the highest alch value if the Protect Item prayer is active)
  • If you die to the Noxious Dragon, you may reclaim your items from the reaper north of ;;home. If you were hit by another player since you last entered the wilderness, and then die to the dragon, it will count as a PK; your items will drop to the floor when you die. If the PK was accidental, the player who hit you can simply leave the items on the floor and you will be able to go pick them back up (even as an ironman).
  • To be safe, when a teammate accidentally hits you, make sure to leave and re-enter the wilderness at the next most convenient moment to reset this player damage.
Gearing up
  • It’s recommended to use ranged at the Noxious Dragon, as it has a very high magic defense, and it’s easy to be surprised by a 500+ melee hit while in melee distance, or accidentally be picked off by a missclicking team mate whilst meleeing.
  • Low risk equipment set ups consist of mostly untradable items, as the majority of untradable items go to reaper to be reclaimed even when PKed. If you don’t have Morrigan’s, Void is a very good no-risk alternative. Almost zero risk set up, low risk set up (item protect!), and high risk set up (item protect!)
  • Inventory set up: (Exchange food for more potions when you realize you don’t need as much food anymore, so you don’t have to go bank as often.)
  • It’s strongly recommended to always skip boss tasks for a Noxious Dragon task if possible. Not only for the significant DPS increase from the slayer helm, but because consistent Noxious Dragon kills make up the best possible slayer xp per hour in game.
  • Make sure you’re on the Lunar spellbook and are able to use Vengeance, as it is part of a major Noxious Dragon mechanic.
Spawning the Noxious Dragon
  • The altar at ;;noxdragon remains inactive until its 3 missing crystals are retrieved from Noxious Spawns spread around the wilderness.
  • You CANNOT leave the wilderness with these crystals.
  • You need a free inventory slot to hold a crystal.
  • It is commonplace for 3 players to each be assigned a spawn. Players also often use alts for the spawns, as they are significantly easier to kill with melee.
  • The spawns are found in the following locations:

North spawn:
Run north from the altar and pass through the gate. The spawn can be both on and around the Deserted Keep. Then run back and place the crystal on the altar.

South-west spawn:
Run south-west from the altar. Then return to the dragon by running south until you hit level 20 wilderness and using the ;;noxdrag command, and place the crystal on the altar.

South-east spawn:
Run north and leave the wilderness by using the lever on the Deserted Keep. Then go into your teleport tab and select PVP Areas > Multi Area, which takes you directly to the Chaos Altar. This spawn can take a little longer to find than the others, but since it’s the only one in multicombat, you can use your titan to kill it very easily. Use the ;;noxdrag command to return to the dragon with the crystal and place it on the altar.

The boss fight

When the 3 Noxious crystals are placed on the altar, players can activate it to spawn the dragon.

Mechanics:

  • Dragonfire: The Noxious Dragon not only does dragonfire damage with auto attacks, but has a special attack where it spreads fire across tiles surrounding and underneath players. Move off these squares immediately to avoid taking rapidly stacking damage.
  • Poison: When the dragon hits you with its green auto attack, there’s a chance you may become poisoned with “noxiousness”. This is not like any other ordinary poison; anti-poison potions do not cure it. You must use the Vengeance spell on the Lunar spellbook to cure yourself. The Noxious Dragon rapidly heals itself whilst any player is poisoned, and all damage done to the dragon is reduced by 10% per noxious player in the area. If you’re the one that’s noxious, your damage is reduced to only 25%. The Group Vengeance and Vengeance Other spells also allow you to cure others; make sure to communicate with your team members if your spells are on cooldown, and keep an eye on others in case they need help.
  • Freeze: The dragon frequently uses a spell similar to the ancient ice spells that freezes you in place and stops you from attacking. Make sure to click the dragon again to continue attacking.
  • Mirrorback Spiders: At 75% HP, the Noxious Dragon spawns its Mirrorback spiders. Their arrival is marked in bright red in your chat box. Do not attack the dragon while Mirrorback spiders are alive; they reflect your damage back to you. A commonly used strategy is to make your Steel Titan special attack the dragon instead, as this will do a lot of damage to the spiders; your Titan has a lot of HP and doesn’t mind taking the hits.
  • Noxious Spiders: At 50% HP, the Noxious Dragon spawns its Noxious spiders. It will once again announce them in the chat. These spiders rapidly heal the dragon while they’re alive. In smaller teams, you may have to kill a few of them because they will be difficult to out-DPS, and extend your kill time significantly. Teams of 5 or 6 can simply ignore them and focus on DPS.
  • Flying Red Dragons: At 25% HP, the Noxious Dragon spawns its red dragons. These are truly just regular red dragons, but as long as they’re flying in the air they have a knockback ability that kicks players around and stuns them momentarily. They can be quite the nuisance; you can bring them down by using bolas on them. Bolas are made from mutated vines and excrescence dropped by Mutated Jadinkos.

Tips:

  • You can use Soul Split at this boss.
  • Always use the rapid style as your ranged attack style.
  • If you have any valuable items on you, don’t forget to keep the Item Protect prayer active.
  • The dragon’s melee auto attacks can be very powerful; try to stay out of melee distance.
  • Make sure your auto retaliate is OFF; having it on is a surefire way to kill yourself during the Mirrorback spiders.
  • If you want to, you can turn off your own drop notifications in ;;settings to prevent alerting PKers when you get a broadcasted drop.
  • If your group encounters PKers, remember you likely outnumber them and this is a multicombat area. One or more of you may be carrying bolas to trap them in place. Pray ranged to counter their titans’ special attack.
