Noxious Wyrm Guide

The Noxious Wyrm spawns in the Wilderness Volcano, a multicombat area. PVP is enabled.

Introduction

  • The Noxious Wyrm is a powerful wilderness boss, dropping loot for up to 2 players. Bring a duo partner to share the fight’s challenges and rewards, though soloing is viable too.
  • Upon spawning, the Wyrm deals 800 typeless damage, evenly distributed among players in the area. Any familiars within range are insta-killed. However, you can strategically position your familiar out of range before the fight.
  • Skulling (::skull) grants a 25% DPS boost, but puts your tradeable items at risk.

Gearing up

While melee and magic are both viable, ranged is strongly recommended for this fight due to its versatility against both the Wyrm and its summoned spiders.

For a more in-depth gearing guide, refer to the recommendations of the Bossing gear guide.

Do not bring Blood barrage as this heals the Wyrm.

Inventory setup:

  • Overloads, payer renewals, super restores
  • Food (sharks or better) and saradomin brews
  • Steel titan (extra pouch) + steel of legends scrolls
  • Trinkets like bonecrusher, charming imp, coin magnet, seedicide, ash sanctifier
  • Dreadnips
  • Rune knives, red chinchompas or Ice Barrage
  • Statius warhammer or advanced lucky bandos godsword
  • Amulet of glory (charged) for a quick escape in case of PKers (you are in level 25 Wilderness, the amulet works up to level 30 Wilderness)

The fight

Throughout the fight, the Wyrm will periodically drag players to its mound. Immediately run away to avoid its powerful melee attacks.

Phase 1: The start

  • Position yourself and your familiar around the corner behind the Wyrm spawn (see picture below) to avoid having it be insta-killed when you spawn the boss. Make sure your familiar is actually behind the corner.
  • Leave the spawn spot (your familiar will get stuck behind the corner) and spawn the Noxious Wyrm by investigating the mound on the ground.
  • At the start, the Wyrm will drag all players into melee range. Move away quickly to avoid its high melee damage.
  • Use your spec weapon of choice and DPS the Wyrm with your familiar and dreadnips, if you have them.

Phase 2: Mirrorback spiders (75% HP)

  • The Wyrm disappears into the mound and spawns mirrorback spiders.
  • Kill all spiders using red chinchompas, knives or Ice Barrage.
  • When the Wyrm pops back up, and there are still spiders alive, avoid attacking the Wyrm. While spiders are alive, the boss will reflect all the damage back to you.
  • Continue DPSing the Wyrm until the next phase.

Phase 3: Noxious spiders (50% HP)

  • The Wyrm disappears back into its mound and this time spawns noxious spiders. While alive, they will rapidly and continuously heal the Wyrm for 250 HP each.
  • Quickly eliminate the spiders using red chinchompas, knives or ice barrage. Delays will result in significant healing for the Wyrm.

Phase 4: The end

Once the Wyrm returns out of its mound and the Noxious spiders are dead, focus on its remaining HP.

Tips

  • Pray Deflect Magic: The Wyrm’s magic attacks are highly damaging. Switch to Soul Split during spider phases.
  • Auto Retaliate Off: Turn auto retaliate off to prevent unnecessary damage reflection on yourself during the mirrorback spider phase.
  • Broadcast Settings: Turn off your drop notifications in ::settings > Your Message Settings > Your Rare Drop Messages to avoid alerting PKers.
  • Team Communication: Work with your duo partner to efficiently handle spiders and coordinate DPS on the boss.
  • Skulling (::skull): The 25 % DPS boost will help, but it’s risky in a PVP-enabled, multicombat area. Stay alert while skulled.
