Noxious Demon & Cyrisus’ Quest Guide

Miniquest (Quickguide)

Warning: This quest largely takes place in the Wilderness where PVP is enabled!

  1. Speak to Cyrisus at the Wilderness ditch and tell him you’ll help him find his demonic artifacts (drop rate of 1/5). He will then give you three clues on what to kill to find them.
    • Clue 1: “Held by caged inferior beings” refers to lesser demons located in the fenced area up the ladder from ;;kbd.
    • Clue 2: “Held by beasts of ruined greatness” refers to the greater demons at the Demonic Ruins, north-east of Red Dragon Island.
    • Clue 3: “Held by dark creatures under a pillar of fresh air” refers to the black demons in the cave under the air obelisk; easily accessed through clicking the Slayer skill > Slayer masters, and selecting Vannaka
  2. Once you have obtained your artifacts, return them to Cyrisus.
  3. Now he will ask you to fight the boss with him. The Noxious Demon is located in the cave at the end of the Lava Maze. Gear up and teleport from Points of Interest > Lava Maze.
  4. Speak to Cyrisus inside the cave and summon the demon from the altar whenever you’re ready!

Remember to speak to Cyrisus after your kill to complete the quest. Important: Cyrisus has to stay alive throughout your entire quest kill (only this once), or you will have to restart the kill to complete the quest.

Gearing up

You must travel through the Lava Maze in order to reach the Noxious Demon. PVP is enabled. You then enter an instance where no one else can come; this is a solo boss.

Gear recommendations:

  • It is recommended to use ranged for this boss. It’s possible to melee but the boss does not respond kindly to players standing in melee distance and praying Soul Split/Melee in Melee distance. The Noxious Demon has a very strong mage defense and therefore it is not recommended to use magic either.
  • To kill the Noxious demon you’re going to want at least a chaotic crossbow and full Armadyl, but preferably high tier gear such as Trickster, Vanguard, or Pernix and weapons like an Ascension crossbow, zaryte bow, or a noxious bow.
  • A ring of wealth has no effect on the reward chest, so an imbued archers’ ring is best in slot.
  • If you’re learning the boss it might be easier to use a crossbow with onyx (e) bolts and simply praying Ranged the entire kill, until you become more comfortable with switching prayers.
  • Your inventory set-up should consist of the following:
    1. Stat boosting potions such as overloads > extremes > supers
    2. Any type of anti-poison potion
    3. Steel of legend scrolls (and a steel titan)
    4. Red chinchompas or a different preferred method of dealing with the spiders
    5. Saradomin brews
    6. Super restores to match
    7. Your best food
    8. Dreadnips are optional but recommended
    9. Statius warhammer and dragon defender, or Bandos godsword
    10. Vengeance runes (Astral, Death, Earth) (Optional, advanced)
    11. Disruption shield runes (Astral, Body, Blood) (Optional, advanced)

The Noxious Demon has four phases in which more of its special attacks unlock as you progress. Some of its attacks can be heard more easily (and sooner) than they can be seen by listening to the demon’s voice lines. You can turn them up or down in the Settings tab > Audio Options > last bar. The audio cues are extremely helpful for its poison attacks.

The Demon also has a “Taunt” option, which is used to take aggression of the boss when it’s attacking Cyrisus. This is extremely important on your first noxious demon kill, as you will not be able to complete the quest if he dies! You will have to restart your kill. After the quest this is far less important, and he’s a nice tool to soul split some HP back while Cyrisus tanks for you.

Phase 1: Start
  • If you are not in melee distance, the Nox Demon will not attack with melee.
  • Its most frequent attacks are ranged, and they are very powerful; pray ranged.
  • It may also cast the occasional mage attack that looks like a ball of fire. It’s not as strong as the ranged attacks and may be ignored, prayer flicked, or Venged for extra damage.
  • On this phase, the only special attack the demon has is a flame portal. You will hear, “A flame portal will flush you out!” and Cyrisus will summon a 5×5 squares radius shield for you to hide under. You do not take fire damage in this shield. If Cyrisus dies or is too far away, you will have to run through the flames, QBD style, but eat up because one awkward step and you will take 3 hits from the fire.
Phase 2: Mirrorback spiders
  • The start of the second phase is announced by the demon proclaiming, “Enough!” and spawning Mirrorback spiders. Do not attack the demon at this time; your damage will be reflected back to you!
  • Kill all the Mirrorback spiders before getting back on the demon.
  • This phase also enables a poison attack. The Noxious demon will call out, “Taste miasma!” before hurling a ball of poison to the tile you’re standing on. The poison remains active on this tile for 5 seconds and the damage stacks up rapidly. Avoid this attack as much as you can and drink anti-poison if you get poisoned.
Phase 3: Noxious spiders
  • The start of the third phase is announced by the demon proclaiming, “There is no escape!” and spawning Noxious spiders.
  • Their healing powers are quick and strong, and they can heal the demon a lot if you don’t get rid of them fast.
  • This phase also enables a dragging special attack. He will call out, “Come closer!” before pulling you into melee distance. When in melee distance, the demon is likely to disable your prayers and leave you momentarily injured and unable to use them.
  • If you brought Vengeance and Disrupt runes, this is an important time to hit both of them, as you will negate the damage of 1 hit, and reflect another potentially big hit.
  • The demon hits you 3 times with melee before you can move back again, out of melee distance.
Phase 4: Wrath
  • The start of the fourth phase (and his last stand) is announced by the demon proclaiming, “Taste my wrath!” and spamming you with miasma bombs. You will have to run around to avoid these!
  • The demon will attack with miasma around 20 times in a row before attacking normally again.
  • Finish him off!
