Distractions & Diversions (D&Ds) are short, location-based events that appear randomly across Gielinor.
How D&Ds spawn and reset:
• Spawn interval: Each of the Living Rock Patriarch, Evil Trees, Shooting Stars and Runespheres appears 3–6 hours after the previous one ends
• Active window: Once spawned, each event lasts 2 hours. It only despawns early if no one interacts with it.
• Minimum gap: No two of these D&Ds can appear within 20 minutes of each other.
• Server restarts: They do not affect active D&Ds.
• Notifications: Join the #d-and-d-notifications channel on our Discord to see spawn times in real time.
To prevent overcrowding and ensure fair rewards, skilling D&Ds adjust their resource rate based on player count using the formula: resource rate = 6 / (number of players + 2)
Evil tree
Chop corrupted roots and keep six fires burning to weaken the tree. When it falls, free the leprechaun and turn in your evil logs for rewards.
Locations & Spawn Hint:
Where: Edgeville · Draynor Village · Yanille · Tree Gnome Stronghold · Seers’ Village · North of Falador · West of Varrock · Lumber Yard
Speak to any spirit tree. If it detects no corruption, the next evil tree won’t spawn for at least two more hours.
Mechanics:
- Watch chat: The game broadcasts the tree’s type and location.
- Chop roots & light fires: Keep six fires burning (each lasts 1–3 min) to prevent roots spawning in lit areas.
- Turn in logs: You may turn in up to 200 evil logs per day—split across multiple trees if you like. Once you reach 200 logs turned in, you can still collect 200 more for the next day.
Use an inferno adze purchased from the Collector. When chopping roots, you have a 33% chance to auto-light a fire. This consumes 3 pieces of kindling.
Rewards:
- Standard: magic logs, mahogany logs, coins and bird nests
- Rare: Woodcutting outfit piece (1/2000 per log), dragon hatchet (1/8000)
- Banking bonus: Auto-bank logs when your inventory is full while Woodcutting; lasts for 30 minutes (requires 200 logs turned in)
- Pet: Evil squirrel (1/70,000) which grants you the Woodcutting cape perks and lets you turn in logs anytime (other players can use your pet too)
Shooting star
Shooting stars are a D&D focused on the Mining skill. The goal of the activity is to free the little alien trapped at the center of the star by slowly making your way through the star’s layers with your pickaxe.
The stars can spawn in/around Edgeville, Catherby, Lunar Isle, Daemonheim, Miscellania, Rellekka, Sophanem, Tree Gnome Stronghold, Al Kharid, Musa Point, and Canifis.
You can look through the telescope in the study room of a Player Owned House to get an indication of whether a star is close to spawning; if you can’t see anything (or see a spider/bunch of stars), it won’t spawn for at least another 2 hours.
Mechanics:
- When a Shooting star spawns, there will be a broadcast in the chat along with its approximate location.
- The Mining level required to participate in the Shooting star D&D depends on the layer it’s on. On BlissScape, Shooting stars always spawn at Size 9, which requires level 90 mining, and drops 10 levels with every layer.
- 200 total stardust may be turned in for rewards every day. That means that if you do one star and happen to only get 100 stardust to turn in, you can safely do that, and then turn in another 100 stardust from another star later in the day. You can turn in your stardust for rewards when you finish Size 1 and reach the center of the star.
- You can only have 200 stardust in your possession at a time. That means that if you’ve turned in your 200 for the day, you may still gather your 200 for the next day.
- The first person to find Shooting star will get an additional xp bonus. The bonus is calculated by taking your level * 20, and then * 76 to make it BlissScape rates, which comes out at about 150k p0 xp at level 99.
Rewards:
The rewards for Shooting stars scale to the amount of stardust turned in, and include runite ores, coal, astral runes, cosmic runes, soul runes, and some coins. There is a 1/8,000 chance to receive a dragon pickaxe.
Additionally, you will have the magical ability to mine 2 resources at once (including sandstone and gem rocks), for up to 30 minutes (30 being at 200 Stardust turned in).
The Shooting star D&D also has its own unique pet, at a 1/70,000 rate, the Starhound. This pet mimics the effects of the Mining skillcape and master cape (if you have them unlocked) and allows you to use your stardust on it to turn it in, without having to wait for a Shooting star D&D to end. Other players may also use your pet to turn in theirs.
Runesphere
Runespheres are a D&D focused on the Runecrafting skill. The goal of the activity is to reach the energy core of the sphere by siphoning your way through the layers.
The Runesphere can spawn at any altar, except ZMI. All of them, besides the Astral altar, can be reached through the Abyss.
You can speak to Wizard Eldriss at the air altar to get an indication of whether a Runesphere is close to spawning; if they aren’t able to sense any impurities, it won’t spawn for at least another 2 hours.
Mechanics:
- When a Runesphere spawns, there will be a broadcast in the chat along with its location.
- The Runecrafting level required to participate in the Runesphere D&D depends on the layer it’s on. On BlissScape, Runespheres always spawn on the Soul layer, which requires level 92 Runecrafting, and drops 7 levels with every layer.

Air: level 1 - 200 total impure essence may be turned in for rewards every day. That means that if you do one Runesphere and happen to only get 100 impure essence to turn in, you can safely do that, and then turn in another 100 impure essence from another Runesphere later in the day. You can turn in your impure essence for rewards when you finish the air layer of the sphere and reach the ball of energy at the core.
- You can only have 200 impure essence in your possession at a time. That means that if you’ve turned in your 200 for the day, you may still gather your 200 for the next day.
- Wizard Eldriss (at the air altar) has a reward shop that contains teleport tabs for all 14 altars the Runesphere can spawn at, and a selection of cosmetics. You automatically gain currency for this shop by simply turning in your impure essence at the end of a Runesphere.
Rewards:
The rewards for Runesphere scale to the amount of impure essence turned in, and include astral runes, blood runes, death runes, soul runes, pure essence, some coins, and the potential of a piece of the Runecrafting bonus XP outfit at a rate of 1/2,000 per impure essence turned in. Additionally, you will have the magical ability to preserve 50% of the pure essence you use while Runecrafting, for up to 30 minutes (30 being at 200 Stardust turned in).
The Runesphere D&D also has its own unique pet, at a 1/70,000 rate, the Tiny Ball of Pure Energy. This pet mimics the effects of the Runecrafting skillcape and master cape (if you have them unlocked) and allows you to use your impure essence on it to turn it in, without having to wait for a Runesphere D&D to end. Other players may also use your pet to turn in theirs.
Penguin hide and seek
Penguin Hide and Seek is an activity surrounding the search for hidden penguins all across Gielinor. Your job is to hunt down these undercover penguin spies and report back to Larry at the Ardougne Zoo. (Reached through the ‘;;Larry’ or ‘;;penguin’ commands)
Mechanics:
- The penguin cycle resets every Tuesday night at midnight. (Server time, EST)
- Asking Larry “Do you have any information about where they might be?” will prompt him to list the 12 weekly areas the penguins may be found in. These areas can be very large and potentially include multiple cities.
- There is always 1 penguin in the Donator Zone, and 1 penguin in the Super Donator Zone. Neither of these count towards the ‘Super Spy’ achievement.
- Asking Larry “Do you have anything that could make finding penguins easier?” will make him offer you the Penguin locator for 15 penguin points. This device allows you to scan for penguins in a 50 square radius, and tells you what direction to go in if it detects one. This makes the hunt significantly easier. It also has an ‘inspect’ option that tells you the areas the penguins are in and whether you’ve found them this week, in the same way Larry does. The Penguin locator is free to reclaim from Larry if you happen to lose it at any point.
- Some players are kind enough to occasionally update this sheet to the penguins’ current locations. They usually do this on Wednesdays, as it’s the first day of the new cycle. But beware, the penguins can move around fast and these locations can become outdated quickly after updating.
Rewards:
Larry allows you to choose between money and XP when spending your penguin points. Early-game, the money might seem more tempting than the XP reward, though this is generally not recommended, as the small amount of money rewarded is very easily obtainable through skills like Thieving or Slayer. Larry will reward you with 188k XP at level 99 p0 for every penguin you spot. (scales with prestiges like lamps do)
It is recommended to save up for the penguin locator before spending your points on anything else, as it is such a significant quality of life improvement, and also an achievement for the Completionist cape.
Living rock patriarch
The Living Rock Patriarch is the PvM equivalent of the skilling D&Ds. It spawns at the same rate and is a world boss that’s generally preferred to be done in a group.
You can speak to Richter at ‘;;lrp’ to get an indication of whether the boss is close to spawning; if he cannot sense any seismic activity, it won’t spawn for at least another 2 hours.
A staff-hosted LRP mass event runs every Saturday after Double XP Weekend at 4PM server time (EST) for 30 minutes with unlimited continuous spawns.
Mechanics:
- When the Living Rock Patriarch spawns, there will be a broadcast in the chat.
- The boss has a very high defence, and it’s common practice to debuff the LRP with a Statius warhammer or Bandos godsword until the ‘;;gethitchance’ command shows an almost guaranteed hit. (At least 90% with tier 90 weapons)
- Its weakness is the crush style on weapons such as mauls, maces, or the Noxious scythe.
- Tip: You can quickly restore your special attack by entering a ‘minigame’ area such as the PvP portals in the Gamer’s grotto or a Dominion tower instance.
- You must do 2,000 damage to the boss to be eligible for a drop.
- The LRP uses melee and ranged auto-attacks. It also has a special attack that causes the cave to visibly shake and attempts to drop rocks on the players. Avoid this attack by stepping off the square you’re standing on, and make sure not to step into anyone else’s; it does a lot of damage.
Rewards:
The most desired rewards from the LRP are the guaranteed living minerals for Fishing, the consistent ore and gem drops (including onyx), and the dragon pickaxe.
The Living Rock Patriarch also has its own unique pet (a mini version of itself) at a rate of 1/300, and a ‘troll pet’ in the form of the Pet rock at 1/150.
