This guide explains how to earn respect, gain the golden mining outfit, and complete the “Gilded” achievement.
You can enter the Lava Flow Mine with the ;;lfm command or by clicking the Mining skill. You need level 68 Mining to break the crust.
Recommended items
- Your best pickaxe. A dragon pickaxe is required for the “Gilded” achievement (toolbelted pickaxes also work for this).
- Varrock armor from the Prestige shop for an +1% mining XP
- Golden mining suit, if you already have it. The platebody of the golden mining suit takes on the effects of the Varrock armor, if you own it
- A Lava titan for an invisible +10 Mining boost
- A weapon
Mechanics
- Find the weakest channel: Talk to Foreman Jaak at the west entrance to learn which channel (A–D) currently has the lowest flow rate.
- Check flow rates: Click the gauges beside each segment to view its percentage.
- Mine the crust: Focus on the segment showing a 50% flow rate for the best XP and respect gains.
- Track respect gains: You earn 1% respect for every 76,000 XP you gain from mining.
- Repeat: The blockage moves every 4–7 minutes—return to Jaak each time to locate the new low-flow segment.
Distractions
You may encounter extra events that boost XP or give rewards:
- Golden Nymph
- spawns on 1/500 mining attempts (1/400 with 120 Mining cape)
- drops golden mining outfit pieces or gilds your dragon pickaxe
- continues granting large XP chunks after you finish the outfit
- Possessed pickaxe
- appears randomly nearby
- grants 10% bonus XP for 10 minutes when killed
- Boiler breakages
- boilers may break occasionally
- fixing one per hour gives a large Smithing XP reward
- you can ignore them without affecting mining

Foreman Jaak sells items for respect points:
- gem bag upgrade and coal bag upgrade (needed for trimmed completionist cape)
- golden hammer (cosmetic item)
- onyx
- pure essence pack
- coal pack
